अमाशय (Stomach)

अमाशय मोटी भित्ति वाली थैलीनुमा संरचना है। यह 'U' आकार का होता है। साथ ही चपटा भी होता है। अमाशय आहार नाल का सबसे चौड़ा भाग होता है। यह एक ओर ग्रसिका अर्थात् ग्रास नली में खुलता है तथा दूसरी ओर क्षुद्रांत्र में खुलता है। ग्रास नली से अमाशय में भोजन आता है।

The stomach is a thick walled sac-like structure. It is 'U' shaped. Also it is flattened. The stomach is the widest part of the alimentary canal. It opens into the esophagus on one side and into the small intestine on the other. Food enters the stomach through the esophagus.

अमाशय की कार्यप्रणाली (Gastric Function)

अमाशय की आन्तरिक सतह से श्लेष्मल, हाइड्रोक्लोरिक अम्ल और पाचक रस स्रावित होते हैं। श्लेष्मल अमाशय की आन्तरिक भाग की सुरक्षा करता है। हाइड्रोक्लोरिक अम्ल अमाशय में उपस्थित जीवाणुओं को नष्ट कर देता है। ये जीवाणु भोजन के साथ अमाशय में चले जाते हैं। हाइड्रोक्लोरिक अम्ल अमाशय के माध्यम को अम्लीय बना देता है। इससे पाचक रसों को क्रिया करने में सहायता प्राप्त होती है। जठर रस (पाचक रस) प्रोटीन को सरल पदार्थों में विघटित कर देता है। यह रस अमाशय में भोजन का पाचन कर देता है।

Mucous, hydrochloric acid and digestive juices are secreted from the inner surface of the stomach. The mucosa protects the inner part of the stomach. Hydrochloric acid destroys the bacteria present in the stomach. These bacteria go into the stomach with food. Hydrochloric acid makes the stomach medium acidic. This helps in the functioning of digestive juices. Gastric juice (digestive juice) breaks down proteins into simpler substances. This juice digests the food in the stomach.
