पृथ्वी का सुरक्षा कवच– ओज़ोन | Earth's Protective Shield– Ozone

ओजोन गैस ऑक्सीजन के तीन परमाणुओं से मिलकर बनी होती है। इसका सूत्र O3 होता है। ओजोन एक अस्थायी गैस है। इसका रंग नीला होता है। इसकी गंध तीखी होती है। ओजोन का निर्माण वायुमण्डल के ऊपरी हिस्से में होता है। ये मुख्य रूप से क्षोभमण्डल और समतापमण्डल में पायी जाती है। इसका संकेन्द्रण 10 किलोमीटर से 50 किलोमीटर के बीच होता है।

Ozone gas is made up of three atoms of oxygen. Its formula is O3. Ozone is a floating gas. Its color is blue. Its smell is pungent. Ozone is formed in the upper part of the atmosphere. It is mainly found in the troposphere and stratosphere. Its concentration varies from 10 km to 50 km.

समतापमण्डल के निचले हिस्से में ओजोन गैस की परत पायी जाती है। यह परत सूर्य से आने वाले हानिकारक पराबैंगनी किरणों को अवशोषित कर लेती है। फलस्वरूप पराबैंगनी किरणें पृथ्वी की सतह पर नहीं पहुँच पाती। इस प्रकार ओजोन परत एक सुरक्षा कवच की भाँति पृथ्वी की रक्षा करती है। भूमध्य रेखीय वायुमण्डलीय क्षेत्र से ध्रुवीय वायुमण्डलीय क्षेत्र की ओर जाने पर ओजोन परत पतली होने लगती है।

Ozone gas layer is found in the lower part of the stratosphere. This layer absorbs the harmful ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. As a result, ultraviolet rays cannot reach the surface of the earth. Thus the ozone layer protects the earth like a protective shield. The ozone layer begins to thin as we move from the equatorial atmospheric region to the polar atmospheric region.

वर्तमान में अनेक हानिकारक गैसों के कारण ओजोन परत का क्षरण हो रहा है। इस परत में छिद्र होते जा रहे हैं। ओजोन परत का क्षरण होने के कारण सूर्य से आने वाली हानिकारक किरणें पृथ्वी पर पहुँच जाती हैं। इस कारण मनुष्यों को चर्म कैंसर, अनुवांशिक विकार आदि रोगों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। ओजोन परत के क्षरण के लिए उत्तरदायी प्रमुख गैसें निम्नलिखित हैं–
1. जेट वायुयानों से निकलने वाली 'नाइट्रस ऑक्साइड'।
2. एयर कंडीशनर, रेफ्रिजरेटर आदि उपकरणों के प्रयोग से निकलने वाली 'क्लोरो फ्लोरो कार्बन' गैस।

Currently the ozone layer is getting depleted due to many harmful gases. There are holes in this layer. Due to the depletion of the ozone layer, harmful rays coming from the sun reach the earth. Due to this humans are facing diseases like skin cancer, genetic disorders etc. The following are the major gases responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer–
1. 'Nitrous oxide' from jet aircraft.
2. 'Chloro Fluoro Carbon' gas emitted from the use of air conditioners, refrigerators etc.

सर्वप्रथम सन् 1984 में जोसेफ फारमैन, बी. गार्डिनर और जे. शंकलीन ने अंटार्कटिका महाद्वीप के ऊपर 'ओजोन छिद्र' की खोज की। वायुमण्डल में ओजोन परत की मोटाई 'डॉब्सन' में मापी जाती है।

First in 1984, Joseph Farman, B. Gardiner and J. Shanklin discovered 'ozone hole' over the continent of Antarctica. The thickness of the ozone layer in the atmosphere is measured in 'Dobson'.

ओजोन क्षरण को रोकने हेतु सन् 1987 में 'मॉण्ट्रियल प्रोटोकॉल' लागू किया गया था। आगे चलकर इस प्रोटोकॉल को संशोधित किया गया। सन् 2016 में 'किगाली समझौते' के अंतर्गत प्रावधान लागू किये गये। ओजोन परत के क्षरण की समस्या की ओर विश्वभर का ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने सराहनीय कार्य किये हैं। संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ ने 16 सितंबर का दिन 'विश्व ओजोन दिवस' के रूप में मनाने का फैसला किया है।

In 1987, the 'Montreal Protocol' was implemented to prevent ozone depletion. This protocol was later modified. In 2016 the provisions under the 'Kigali Agreement' were implemented. The United Nations has done commendable work to draw the attention of the world to the problem of ozone layer depletion. The United Nations has decided to observe 16 September as 'World Ozone Day'.
